Imagining a New Way Forward for Emergence Consulting
Cheri Baker of Emergence Consulting approached Heatbrain last summer, looking to build a new website that moved her business forward through a cohesive, powerful online presence. She had a strong desire to see her unique personality and approach shine through on the website, creating a lucrative opportunity that invited her potential customers to engage her in onsite business, as well as sell her tools through an online store, all while engaging her customers in a high impact, branded environment.

Starting the website development and design process
Heatbrain spent the opening weeks of the project life cycle by organizing conversations with Cheri to explore her core offerings, allowing us to dig deep into what it was that set her apart. We spent this time working to understand exactly what it was that made her a valued asset to her customers. Additionally, we spent time investigating her online landscape, figuring out what other companies she was up against, and what the website needed to do on its own to stand out to the HR professional seeking the services she offered.
We also worked with Cheri to understand her aesthetic preferences, and branding priorities. The goal: the aesthetics of the website design needed to connect with and speak directly to her targeted demographics (at a glance).
Having a firm foundation from which the website would be designed, we shifted our focus to internalizing the software she would need to properly manage her website, online store, and blog. Cheri’s goal was to be able to regularly update her website and offerings without hassle, as well as to manage her online store in a way that encouraged visitors to purchase her tools, while simultaneously considering her for a larger, more lucrative engagement (such as creating relationships with companies that sought her face to face services).
Creating the design that powered the entire website
Our design process is straight forward. After learning everything we could about Emergence Consulting and Cheri Baker
(and how the relationship works between both the company name and her name), we were able to clearly plan out the aesthetics and branding associated with the website.
We started our design process with a dedicated thumbnail design and review. During the thumbnailing process, we discovered that the visual motif of "chat bubbles" fit clearly with Cheri’s approach and strategy (engaging others in dedicated communication to solve the problems that face businesses – in general: creating a strong, reliable workforce through communication). Cheri also made it clear to us that she was interested in a website that had some "spunk", something that was unique and memorable, and made an impact. Of course, due to our thorough planning process, moving forward with a design that achieved all of her goals was an excellent exercise in creativity that we thoroughly enjoyed.
Once the thumbnail designs had been discussed and approved, we had a clear path embraced by both Cheri Baker of Emergence Consulting, and Heatbrain for moving forward with the literal design of the website.
Creating powerful website software for easy website management
Heatbrain carefully weighed all of the software goals of Emergence Consulting’s new website, coming up with a list of management tools that both fit Cheri’s budget, and gave her all the power she needed to easily organize and update her website as her information and offerings expand.
We took additional steps to work to understand how the software fit with Cheri’s business plan, and what special upgrades and modifications were needed to ensure a smooth process for her visitors. With this in mind, we opted for an online store that offered product saturation once a user has engaged with her past the homepage (clicked into the rest of the website), but specifically leaving products off of the homepage to ensure that users understood that Cheri’s core offerings were her onsite business development strategies (worth more to her and her customers).
We coordinated her blog (a powerful social networking tool, working well for her already) to her new website, dispersing her latest blog posts, generating interest in her writing, and continuing to tie the two tools together. This creates an environment where there is a seamless transition from website to blog, and back.
Additionally, the free resources that Cheri was offering (articles, PDFs, etc.) were targeted to the exact demographic that she wanted to be in touch with. With that in mind, we developed what we call an "exclusive content" solution. That is, free access to "high importance" content that requires basic contact details to view. This ensures that visitors who want to read this free content do so knowing that the reason it’s free is that Cheri hopes you’ll be interested in talking to her when the time is right. It also gives Cheri the contact details of the very people she wants to be working with (people who are engaging with her and her website already, not to mention belonging to the right demographic).

When we wrapped up the project, Cheri was presented with a website design that exuded her personality and brand, manageable by intuitive software, which was tied to her redesigned blog (coordinated with her new brand). We all wanted to build a website that we were proud of, and we believe we have done just that. Her website is a coordinated product that presents her in a new light, generating vitality for her organization, and establishing her as a leader and authority in her industry.
